ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 50001, ISO 19943 and MASE certification ➡️ start a process and optimize it using a digital application.

What are ISO Standards?

As a reminder, each Standard has a specific scope of application:

  • The ISO 14001 standard implements the requirements of an environmental management system, enabling an organization to define its environmental impacts, develop an environmental strategy with precise objectives, comply with regulatory requirements and establish processes to achieve conformity with the commitments made.
  • The ISO 45001 standard sets out requirements in terms of health and safety in the workplace, and establishes an Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) management system.
  • Its “little sister” is the MASE standard
  • The ISO 50001 standard deals with energy management.
  • The ISO 19443 standard is becoming a “must-have” for all players in the nuclear industry.

Key stages in the ISO certification process

Phase 1: Inventory and identification of gaps in compliance with standards

The main objectives of this phase are to :

  • Assess the company’s initial level of compliance with the requirements of each standard
  • Highlight potential deviations (i.e. non-compliances) in relation to the requirements of these standards.
  • Identify priorities and recommendations for action to be taken to ensure that the management system complies with the requirements of these standards.
  • Define the implementation schedule for the certification project(s)

Phase 2: Support in setting up management systems

The main objectives of this phase are very concrete and represent the central part of the support.

The main actions are as follows:

    1. Identify the structuring points of a potential integrated management system (the latter can be linked with other systems in place, in particular with the ISO 9001:2015-certified quality management system), on the following key topics from an “Environment”, “OHS” and/or Energy perspective:
      • Stakes & stakeholders,
      • QSE policy and objectives
      • Risks & opportunities
      • Action plans
      • Skills
      • Communication & awareness-raising
      • Scope of documentation
      • Continuous improvement: non-conformities and corrective actions
      • Management & Governance Review.
    2. For ISO 14001, Have an environmental analysis that highlights the significant environmental aspects and impacts (AES & IES), emphasizing key points such as the notion of “life-cycle perspective” and the means of controlling the treatment of AES.
    3. For ISO 45001, build an occupational health & safety risk assessment that highlights significant risks, focusing on important points such as the methodology for identifying OHS hazards and associated risks, the criteria for prioritizing risks, and finally, the control methods for dealing with the risks.
    4. Monitor environmental, OHS and/or energy regulations and assess compliance with obligations. On this point, the standards focus on the following issues:
      • How and when do you monitor regulations?
      • How are compliance obligations communicated internally?
      • How and when is conformity assessment carried out?
      • How are conformity assessment results communicated internally?
      • How are action plans organized to deal with non-compliance with obligations?
    5. Set up a monitoring and measurement plan with criteria :
      • What to monitor and measure
      • Monitoring, measurement, analysis and assessment methods
      • Periodicity of monitoring and measurement
      • Periodicity of analysis and evaluation of monitoring and measurement results

Phase 3: Training and awareness-raising for managers and staff

Phase 4: Blank audit – preparing for the ISO/MASE certification audit

The benefits of semi-digitized support in implementing ISO 45001, ISO 14001, ISO 50001, ISO 9001 management systems…

Certification support often takes the form of on-site or video meetings. The duration of this “usual” service, i.e. without digitization, ranges from 6 to 12 months, depending on the availability of internal resources and timing constraints imposed by the Group, customers, etc.

With the help of a digital tool, you can greatly streamline the work involved and reduce the time needed to set up management systems. This mode of working is faster, safer and more flexible than the “usual” accompaniment mode, in particular by guaranteeing the following points:

  • more systematic monitoring of work, thanks to the centralization of data and processes on a web platform accessible at all times to all stakeholders (consultants and organizational referents)
  • semi-automation of tasks such as action plans, and a reduction in human error
  • real-time monitoring of key performance indicators and compliance targets.
  • improved communication and collaboration

At Novallia, semi-digitalized support is based on the NV Compliance Application.

The main advantages of the NV Compliance web application are as follows:

  • Standards are posted online on the application and broken down into requirements to make them easier to read and highlight their structure.
  • during the support phase, the organization shares its assessments, compliance action plans and all data relevant to certification with the support provider.
  • Questions can be asked at any time via the chat function integrated into NV Compliance.

By combining certification support for standards with the use of a dedicated web application, organizations can transform their management systems.
Digitization offers significant advantages, such as data centralization, task automation and easy tracking of compliance objectives with real-time indicators.
By following the consultant’s best practices and using a web-based compliance digitization application, companies maximize the benefits of digitization and ensure effective management of occupational health and safety and their environmental or energy impacts.
